Transplantation is the treatment of last resort. When a patient needs a stem cell or bone marrow transplant, it is their only remaining chance for a cure. The sooner that transplant happens, the more likely it will be a success – so timeliness in finding a matching donor for each patient is urgent.
For patients who do not have a match among the 30 million volunteer donors in the worldwide registry, the situation is even more urgent. When swab kits from donor drives arrive at our headquarters, the faster we process them, the better the chance for those patients with no match to find a donor in time.
