My uncle, Edmund Mizrachi, a vibrant and active proud Syrian father and grandfather was diagnosed with AML leukemia last year. This kind of leukemia is a silent one, and can attack anyone at a moments notice at any age. A person can actually be completely asymptomatic before the diagnosis. The older one is though, the more complications potentially arise which can delay chemo treatment.
He was in remission for 1 year, until he recently had a relapse.
He is in need of a bone marrow transplant that will match his specific Jewish ancestry-namely of Syrian decent.
Currently the sephardic donor pool is underrepresented in national and international registries, so while EVERYONE is encouraged to simply swab their cheek, his chances of finding a great match will be those with a Syrian background.
Time is of the essence, so please donate what you can to this amazing mitzvah. Processing of these kits cost $54 each, and unfortunately many kits go unprocessed due to a lack of funds, which is heartbreaking.
