People who join the registry are very very very very very unlikely to be a match, much less an actual viable candidate to donate stem-cells, so that is why it is imperative that as many people as possible join the registry. 90% of transplants are of stem-cells, which involves a procedure very similar to donating blood. In fact, the blood is returned into the donor's body because only stem cells are required for a person in-need.
Did you know that transplants actually SAVE the lives of people in-need? They are not part a long treatment regimen.
