Kathy Schultz's Donor Circle

Please join my Donor Circle and become a member of the Gift of Life bone marrow registry. This registry provides children and adults who are sick with leukemia or lymphoma a chance to recover. You could save a life!

On November 8, 2018 I received a Stem Cell Transplant at Memorial Slone Kettering in New York, after being diagnosed with Myleofibrosis.

None of my immediate family members were acceptable to be my transplant match.  I was given The Gift of Life from the Registry, with a 12 out of 12 match, from a Gift of Life Donor!

it's such a selfless gift that requires the donor  must be prepared for several days in advance – a daily injection is given to stimulate the stem cells to move out of the marrow and into the blood stream. The first injection is given at a clinic, and following injections are done by a visiting nurse at the donor’s home.

At the donation center the donor’s blood is drawn from one arm to pass through an apheresis machine, and is then returned into the other arm. Inside the machine, the blood is separated into its components and the stem cells only are separated out and collected. The process may take several hours, and it is important for the donor to eat soon after donation. A Gift of Life representative is always there help to ensure that every donor is well taken care of!

Now 2 years later this Gift just keeps on giving me the life to enjoy my children, my grandchildren and everyday to the fullest!

How lucky am I that I am now going to meet my Donor to thank him via Zoom, a Covid-19 blip, to thank the person who has truly given me The Gift of Life!

Our Family will forever be indebted to my Donor and The Gift of Life.

I ask that you consider a small donation to Gift of Life as our family will be doing annually for the Life they have given me!
