British TV series inspires Central student to start baking!
Yeshiva University High School student Yaffa Reichwald has decided to dedicate her summer to raising money for a good cause. The rising senior and medical school-bound young baker has spent the past three months in quarantine learning to master the art of French macaron baking, inspired by watching the British TV series The Great British Baking Show. With her summer research internship at Einstein Medical School cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the 17-year-old needed to find a meaningful alternative.
When asked why she decided to bake macarons, Yaffa said, "Macarons are challenging and different. Selling macarons to raise money to support bone marrow testing is the perfect combination for me."
Yaffa Reichwald has a history of using her creative talents for charity. Last year she organized a bone marrow testing booth for Gift of Life at the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates 5K charity run, and has also performed on the piano at a recent charity event that raised more than $15,000.
