My daughter Margot was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of blood cancer in October 2013, and required a bone marrow transplant (also known as a stem cell transplant) to survive. Margot eventually found a suitable donor match and received her bone marrow transplant in February 2014. However, Margot’s Leukaemia was extremely aggressive and she relapsed during summer last year and passed away, aged 2 years and 2 months, on the 27 October 2014.
Team Margot is Margot’s family and friends who came together to raise awareness of Margot’s plight and others desperately seeking a blood stem cell donor match. We imagine a world where every patient in need of a bone marrow transplant is confident of quickly finding his or her matching donor.
We campaign for more potential bone marrow / stem cell donors to join the register – especially people with a mixed genealogy. Margot’s mixed family background was the key obstacle to finding her a perfect match.
We want to help save the lives of all those people who, just like Margot and our family, never thought they’d need a bone marrow transplant.
Please join my donor circle and become a member of the Gift of Life bone marrow registry. This registry provides children and adults who are sick with leukemia or lymphoma a chance to recover. You could save a life!
Thank you.
Yaser, Margot's father
