Bhanu Patel is a 66-year-old wife to her husband Dhansukh, mother of Anand and Sonya, and grandmother of five: Ariana, Zaya, Mavani, Kaidyn, and Mila. Bhanu lives in Nashville, Tenn. and was born in San Francisco, where she has many family and personal connections.
She was recently diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), and urgently needs a peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) or bone marrow transplant as her best chance for a cure.
To defeat AML and recover her health, Bhanu needs to find a matching donor who shares her tissue type. This tissue type is inherited from our parents, like hair and eye color, so the best chance of finding her match is with someone who shares her genetic heritage.
That’s where YOU come in! You could be Bhanu’s lifesaving match without even knowing it. All it takes is a simple swab of your cheek to find out if you are a match for Bhanu or another patient in need.
Bhanu is of Gujarati descent from the Surat area, particularly the villages of Kharvasa and Asta.
If you are of South Asian ancestry, please join the registry today!
Our goal at Gift of Life is to help Bhanu overcome this diagnosis and get back to normal life with her children and grandchildren. Let’s help this beautiful family have an incredible future together.
