This Donor circle was created in January of 2011 as part of the search for a bone marrow donor for Maxine. At that time Maxine had been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a type of blood cancer. There were no matches for her in the National Bone Marrow Registry at that time. Our goal was to register and test as many donors as possible in hopes of finding her match. In the summer of 2011 her match was found, and she received a peripheral stem cell transplant at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York. A long period of recovery followed. In the time since her transplant and recovery we have found matches for 30 others in need.
