Friends -
I'm reaching out to ask for support in my efforts to run the NYC Half-Marathon this coming March on behalf of The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation.
The Gift of Life is a leading bone marrow, blood stem cell, and umbilical cord blood registry that finds matching donors for patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, other cancers and genetic disorders. Every year thousands of patients are diagnosed with illnesses that require stem cell or marrow transplants. Only about a third of the population has an HLA matching sibling donor available for transplant, while the rest must rely on a complete stranger to save their life.
As many of you don't know, I was fortunate enough to be one of these complete strangers. After joining the registry over 3 years ago, I was recently informed of being a perfect match and had the opportunity to help a patient with leukemia by donating my bone marrow just a few months ago. The experience was one I will never forget, and the reward I felt could hardly ever be surpassed. I hope to not only raise funds for this tremendous organization and obviously wonderful cause, but importantly raise awareness and encourage anyone I can to join the registry and become a potential donor.
If you'd like to make a donation (tax-deductible), please click the button to the right to donate online or you can mail your donation to 800 Yamato Road, Suite 101, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Please note my name on the memo line of your check.
For those of you in the Boston area, I hope you will additionally consider joining me for drinks and a chance to actually join the registry and become a potential donor yourself! The details of the event and Facebook link are below.
When: Thursday, March 7th, 7:00 - 9:30pm
Where: Oliver's (Cask 'n Flagon), 62 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215
