In 2010, at the age of 45, Jim was diagnosed with CLL. He received treatment at the time and went into remission. 5 years later, there was a recurrence and Jim again received treatment. The doctors anticipated that this new round of treatment would keep the cancer at bay for approximately 5 years, but sadly, it only lasted for 2 years. Jim entered the next phase of his battle with CLL and this time we almost lost him, but he fought back bravely and the doctors were able to get the cancer back into remission and Jim entered a Car T-cell therapy trial. Once again, things were looking good with Jim’s lab results and he was getting stronger, but at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, Jim’s lab results started declining and further test results showed that the CLL had mutated into a more aggressive form of Leukemia and, on top of that, the test results also diagnosed him with Lymphoma. Jim is once again undergoing chemotherapy with the next step being a bone marrow transplant. Jim has 3 siblings, all of whom have been tested, and none of whom are a match. His children are being tested next and, while they will be a 50% match, we are hoping for an even better outcome.
Jim and his wife, Jolyn, have been married for almost 28 years. They have 2 beautiful, kind and responsible children, Grayson (24) and Connor (22).
Jim loves woodworking, boating, bike riding, movies, going to the beach, and, above all, spending time with family and friends. He has an endless amount of energy, which has only waned during the most challenging times of his treatment, and he is always the first one to lend a helping hand. He has the most positive attitude and outlook which has been on display throughout this challenging journey. He is smart, warm, playful and funny and is a loving and selfless human being. The world needs more Jim Harveys and we need our Jim Harvey so we are asking for your help and praying that we are able to find the best possible donor match.
Jim's ethnic background is half Italian and half Irish/Scottish/Welsh so if you happen to share a similar background you have a greater chance of being a match.
