Hi! My name is Julia Lawlor and I am a volunteer at Gift of Life. Gift of Life is an international blood stem cell and marrow registry that finds matching donors for patients battling diseases like leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell, and other genetic disorders. Joining the marrow registry is easy -- it's just a cheek swab and an online survey. Once you're in the registry, over time there is a 10% chance of being called a match, and 4 out of 5 times it is similar to giving plasma/blood. The more people we add to the registry, the closer we can get to ending blood cancer! It is especially important to add college students because 85% of donors are aged 18-35.
