My friends and I are running in the Jerusalem Marathon On Friday March 18th, 2016 as part of our effort to raise funds and awareness for Gift of Life in the year leading up to our Bar/Bat Mitzvahs! Show your support by clicking the red "Give" button above.
This cause is special to me because my mom met Jay when he was having his transplant and has been helping run drives ever since. Also, my grandfather has lymphoma and thankfully had a full recovery.
The simple truth is that for some people their only hope of a cure to leukemia, lymphoma and a number of other diseases is a bone marrow transplant. All other "conventional" options have been exhausted.
The cells that form our HLA typing are inherited and cannot be replicated in a pharmaceutical laboratory. For more than 100 patients each year Gift of Life is able to provide a donor who selflessly finds the time and courage to donate their bone marrow or stem cells.
But there are patients out there who do not have a match in the Gift of Life Registry, or one of the other international registries, so we are always recruiting new donors. Each new donor represents another chance, another possibility, for a patient suffering from a life-threatening disease who is rapidly running out of options.
Recruiting new donors requires funds. The lab test for each new donor is $60. For every $60 that you sponsor one of our runners, one more person will join the registry and one more patient has the potential key to life saving treatment.
Thanks for your help, Koby :)
