Yuna

Yuna , is an 11-year-old Chinese/Korean girl diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia (AA) in December 2023. AA is a rare blood disorder where the bone marrow fails to produce blood cells.

There are countless number of patients who suffer from AA and other similar maladies who count on gracious and generous donors working through marrow registries like Gift of Life to provide life-saving bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell transplants.

It is our hope that we can bring awareness to this issue and encourage others to be a part of the international donor database.  Thank you for taking the time to hear our story.

How You Can Help

You could be Yuna's match! Matches are based on factors called human leukocyte antigens (HLA) that are inherited, similar to the way hair and eye color are inherited. The best chance of a match is with someone who shares a similar genetic heritage.

We are appealing for individuals to test their suitably to donate who are:

  • of Chinese or Korean ancestry
  • between the ages of 18 and 35
  • in general good health

Join the registry and start the process of testing. The process is simple, and a testing kit will be sent to eligible donors at no cost.

Together, we can give Yuna the chance she deserves to live a full and joyful life.

Thank you for your compassion and support. Help Yuna win this fight.

  • Join the registry! Click on the blue "Join Registry" button.
    • Donors in general good health between 18 and 35 years old may join the registry. Donors over the age of 35 can also join, but we ask that you to please donate $60 to offset the lab fees – Click here to learn why.
    • Eighty percent of donors requested by transplant centers are 18 to 35 years old for medical reasons – Click here to learn why Age Matters.
    • Donors can remain in the registry until their 61st birthday – Click here to learn why the registry has an Age Limit.
    • Certain medical conditions may mean you are not able to join the registry or donate – Click here to check the Conditions List. If you're not sure, a health history questionnaire is part of the registration process.
  • Sponsor a swab kit. Click on the orange "Give to My Circle" button. Lab processing of every kit costs $60. Your contribution will help add new donors to the registry, who may be a match for Yuna or another patient.
  • Spread the word. Use the social media links to the right to share Yuna's story in your Facebook and Twitter account. The more people who order a swab kit and join the registry, the faster Yuna will find a donor.
