About five years ago, UGBC President Jack Bracher joined the registry to become a potential stem cell donor. A few years later, Bracher found out that he had a match. "I got a call from the nonprofit that I’d done it through saying that I was a match for a patient with leukemia, so I had started going through the process of being able to donate to him," Bracher, MCAS ’22, said.

Lynn University's Womens Lacrosse team joins Gift of Life Marrow Registry to fight blood cancer and help save lives.

After a life-saving decision, the Miami Beach Police Department organized a heartwarming reunion. The police department teamed up with the organization Gift of Life to reunite David Marder with Amir, the teenager he helped save from an inherited immune system disorder. Marder made the donation through the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, a non-profit that facilitates transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

The Miami Beach police department served as a backdrop for a bone marrow registry drive through Gift of Life. In the middle of it all, complete strangers are now bonded by blood. David Marder unselfishly gave 18-year-old Amir A. the ‘gift of life’. They met each other for the first time.

A non-profit organization gathered outside of Miami Beach Police headquarters on Thursday morning to encourage the community to consider donating bone marrow to help save those in need. "For many, a bone marrow transplant or a stem cell transplant offers hope of a cure," says Gift of Life Marrow Registry Founder and CEO Jay Feinberg.

Awardee Evie Goldfine: During her 16-year involvement with Gift of Life, Evie learned that racial and ethnic minority groups have low representation in the worldwide bone marrow registry, resulting in patients with blood diseases being unable to find lifesaving matches. Evie has helped to create many initiatives to assist the registry in democratizing cellular therapy to save lives by raising awareness and encouraging participation.
