After an eight month battle with a rare blood disease, Seth Akins got the miracle he and his family had been praying for — a lifesaving bone marrow transplant at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. At 10 years old, Akins was diagnosed in January 2017 with aplastic anemia.

The varsity dance team teamed up with the Gift of Life Marrow Registry to get more peope involved by holding a stem cell drive. Last weekend several temples and Jewish centers in Great Neck took part in helping Elan Shademan, a 10-year-old boy battling to avoid leukemia, by hosting bone marrow and stem cell donor recruitment drives. The donor drives were held on Saturday and Sunday at Temple Israel, Beth Hadassah Synagogue, the Mashadi Jewish Center and the Babylonian Jewish Center.
