A South Florida father is turning the loss of his son into helping others. 19-year-old Nicholas McClary died last November after a three-year battle with leukemia. During those three years, McClary waited for a match for a bone marrow transplant.

Ithaca College’s Students Alliance for Israel (SAFI) club will be hosting the first "IC Loves Israel Day" to celebrate Israeli culture April 28. Nonprofit organizations like Save a Child’s Heart, which focuses on providing pediatric cardiac care to children in developing countries, and the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, an organization that focuses on facilitating and collecting bone marrow transplants, will be at the event.

The Delray Beach Pickleball Club recently joined forces with the Valencia Palms Gift of Life Club to hold the third annual round-robin pickleball tournament to benefit the Gift of Life Marrow Registry.

In November 2015, Manhattan resident Julio Rivera suddenly found himself in a fight for his life. A routine dental procedure that would not stop bleeding sent him to the emergency room, but the result was a shock to Julio and his family: he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He needed a stem cell transplant to have any hope of survival, and fortunately he found one in the Gift of Life registry.

The Union College men's lacrosse team may be nationally ranked this season due to their play on the field, but in recent years the Dutchmen also have been a national leader in a much more important category: saving lives through bone marrow drives and donations. For nearly a decade, the men's lacrosse program has led bone marrow drives on campus and have had no fewer than four players who have donated bone marrow in the hopes of saving a life.

From ratifying amendments to registering bone marrow donors to teaching courses in Kenya and rural India, students at Florida State University have done more than just balance studies and a social life; they’ve changed lives. President John Thrasher recognized 14 undergraduate students at the Humanitarian Luncheon Tuesday, March 26, as part of the annual President’s Humanitarian of the Year program.
