A routine dental procedure that would not stop bleeding sent him to the emergency room, but the result was a shock to Julio and his family: he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He needed a stem cell transplant to have any hope of survival, and fortunately he found one in the Gift of Life registry.

Union Lacrosse: A Legacy of Saving Lives

The Union College men's lacrosse team may be nationally ranked this season due to their play on the field, but in recent years the Dutchmen also have been a national leader in a much more important category: saving lives through bone marrow drives and donations. For nearly a decade, the men's lacrosse program has led bone marrow drives on campus and have had no fewer than four players who have donated bone marrow in the hopes of saving a life.
