New York man receives life-saving transplant courtesy of Florida man

When 50-year-old Julio Rivera, of New York, needed a transplant to save his life, a 23-year-old Florida man stepped in to answer his prayers. Both were invited to a charity event in Boca Raton. If you saw them today, you’d think they’ve been best friends for life, but they’re actually seeing each other for the first time.

Each summer for the past several years, we have run a drive during Coleman’s Staff Week for the Gift of Life donor registry. In 2014, Ryan Corning, a former Coleman staff member and NFTY-STR teen, participated in the drive at camp. Over a year ago, Ryan was found to be a match for a man diagnosed with Leukemia. Ryan jumped at the chance to save a life of a person he had never met.
