Siena men’s lacrosse player Tahnaokata Elijah walked into a routine team film session on campus in April 2023. At least he thought it was routine. He didn’t realize it would be the first step of trying to save a cancer patient’s life.

Women's hockey player Kylie Scott's (So., Dayton, Minn.) work with the SAAC committee has reached far more than her local Gustavus community. As a sophomore, she helped sponsor an event for Gift of Life Marrow Registry, a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating blood stem cell and bone marrow matches for potential transplants.

On Friday, Gift of Life held a tabling event on Grounds, asking students to pause for a cheek swab. "We just know that every single person that's out there that's suffering from leukemia or any other type of bone marrow disease has their own match, and we want to make sure that they find them," said Dhillon Parikshak, a campus ambassador.
