The 2013 Silver Project Calendar

Nov 28, 2012 by Gift of Life News
The Silver Project’s creators are at it again! The Silver Project calendar for 2013 was created out of a nationwide photo and art contest.  Contestants were asked to submit a piece capturing the essence of the following three questions, “What inspires you to give back?”, ”How do you live life to the fullest?” and “What do you have to say about cancer?”  Are you curious to see the winners?  Then you’ll have to buy the calendar!  All net proceeds from 2013 calendar will be used to process donor kits and add new member to Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation’s worldwide registry.

The Silver Project was created in 2010 by Stacey Lewis to honor the memory of her father, who passed away from blood cancer.  In his last days, Stacey made a promise to him that she would carry on his legacy by living a life surrounded by purpose and happiness.  She became inspired to create the calendar and do something positive, “something that would remind me of my father and the promise I made to him; something inspiring to others; and most importantly, something that would give back to those in need,” she said.   With the help of a close friend Stephanie, the calendar was created and went viral, selling over 1,000 and raising more than $25,000 for Gift of Life.

Today, the calendar is produced by a team, including Stacey’s brother Jason, and their friend Avi Karesh, a donor and recipient himself.  All involved in the project have a personal connection to the difficulties and heart ache involved in dealing with cancer.

The mission for the 2012 calendar remains the same, to raise money to fund the processing of swab kits collected at donor drives.  But, it is fueled by Shira Klein, who is currently in need of a stem cell transplant.  Shira is a married mother of three beautiful children who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  The Silver Project hopes that proceeds will help find miracle matches for Shira and the many other patients currently searching.

To date the project has funded hundreds of swabbing kits through its 2010 and 2011 campaigns.  It is because of the Silver Project that 10 matches have already been found for patients in need and 3 lifesaving transplants have been facilitated.
