Jared’s Donor Circle

Mar 18, 2009 by Gift of Life News

Thirteen year old Jared from Pennsylvania decided to make Gift of Life his Bar Mitzvah project because his family knows someone who needs a bone marrow transplant.

"I am a 13-year-old boy who is having a bar mitzvah. I am a seventh grader at a middle school in Pennsylvania. I like sports and play football, and I wrestle. I love all Philadelphia sports teams and I enjoy watching them.

I chose Gift of Life for my Bar Mitzvah project because my mom knew someone who was diagnosed with leukemia and needed to get a bone marrow transplant. We talked about how most donors are usually family members, or someone from the same ethnic background. We then talked about the Holocaust, and the impact it had on so many Jewish people whose families were destroyed.

When I found out about Gift of Life I knew this was what my project should be, since I could not only help Jewish people become donors, but people from all ethnic backgrounds. For my project I am setting up a donor’s circle for people to donate money to Gift of Life, and the money will be used for those who want to get tested and can’t afford a test kit." - Jared
