Powerful Impact of Giving Program

A large, white, delivery truck spattered with mud from a recent rainstorm pulled up to the Gift of Life Headquarters this past Monday. But this truck wasn’t just any delivery of mail, office supplies, or normal shipment. The wide cardboard boxes were loaded off one by one with anticipation of what was inside. The contents? 100 translucent blue and psychedelic green, acrylic piggy banks.

These plastic pigs are not just your normal toy. The little fellows will be used to help save the lives of patients in need of bone marrow transplants and they will begin visiting their foster parents as early as next week. Each happy pig will be used to collect donations from children and adults in the first phase of the Powerful Impact of Giving Club, also known as Club P.I.G.
 

Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, the promoter of Club P.I.G., said: "What started off as an exciting idea with a few creative individuals in our office has turned into a countrywide initiative that will benefit patients in need of bone marrow transplants." Funds donated through Club P.I.G. will be used to send buccal swab test kits to the lab so new donors can be placed on the worldwide bone marrow registry.

Gift of Life will distribute a total of 100 piggy banks to the first individuals who email the social media department with their shipping address to socialmedia@giftoflife.org In addition to receiving a piggy bank in the mail, the 100 piggy parents will be given a birth certificate where they can proudly name their piggy, a welcome kit with instructions on how to make the most of this special giving program, and a suggestion form on who they might want the next foster parent to be.

It is an honorable deed to accept the piggy into your home. All participants will become part of a family that is committed to aiding children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses and in need of bone marrow transplants.  “This is about the idea of becoming part of something more, the people in this program are dedicated to giving the gift of life and raising awareness for an important cause,” said Marti Freund, Senior Development Associate at the organization.
