Did you know that Gift of Life was the first registry in the world to recruit donors online through its website in 2000?  Since that time, thousands of donors have signed up through Gift of Life’s website and requested that a swab kit be sent directly to them in the mail.  Gift of Life is breaking ground again by being the only bone marrow registry that gives potential donors the opportunity to join the registry using a Facebook app.   With over 150,000 fans on our Facebook page, the app is an ideal way to engage the community and offer this unique opportunity. 

Gift of Life’s Facebook app is accessed via our Facebook page.  All personal information is transferred directly through Gift of Life’s secure site.  All potential donors have to do to register is answer a few simple questions about their health and background.  Registering through the Facebook app takes only ten minutes, a remarkably small amount of time that makes a big difference. The app also gives fans the option of sharing their life-saving deed with others by posting the app on their walls.  Facebook fans can also give the gift of a swab kit through the app by either sending a gift card or typing in the email address of a friend who will in turn receive an email including a discount code they can use to register. 

Gift of Life is consciously aware of the concerns many Facebook users have regarding safety. While the app is found through facebook, all the information shared with Gift of Life is encrypted and will not be shared with any third parties.  The app is used as a portal for our website, thus ensuring that all personal information is kept private.
