Urgent Appeal: Please Help Sarah and Others Like Her

Nov 22, 2013 by Gift of Life News

Six year old Sarah suffers from acute myeloid leukemia. She has undergone lumbar punctures and bone marrow aspirations. She has been through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and more than 50 blood transfusions. Though initial treatments seemed to put Sarah’s cancer in remission, she recently relapsed and needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. Unfortunately, a matching donor has not yet been found among the over 20 million volunteer donors worldwide.

Like most children her age, Sarah loves Justin Bieber, gymnastics, camp, art and playing with her friends.  She recently even learned how to swim and ride a bike. She loves being a big sister to one year old Elizabeth. She is incredibly witty and wants to grow up and get married so that she can one day kiss a boy.

Sarah, along with other children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses need your help. We urgently need to test new donors and find Sarah’s match. Please consider making a year-end contribution to Gift of Life to help cover the cost of lab fees to process new donor samples for the registry. Every donor we can add to the registry improves the chances of finding miracle matches for Sarah and others like her.
