Swab-A-Palooza Encourages Online Donors to Register!

Gift of Life is excited to announce Swab-A-Palooza, a special opportunity for online donors to join the registry at no cost! From now until April 30th, 2013, the first 200 volunteers to complete their registration online can do so for free (they will not be charged the typical $60 fee) when they type in the code SwabAPalooza13. The program stems from an unyielding desire to achieve our mission: A match. Anytime. Anywhere. For anyone.
In 2001 Gift of Life became the first public donor registry to use cheek swabs at donor recruitment drives. By pioneering the use of this technology, Gift of Life made the donor recruitment process easier, faster, and more affordable. Soon after, Gift of Life further led the curve by introducing online donor testing, whereby interested volunteers could request a testing kit online. For those who wanted to join the registry but could not get to a community recruitment drive, online testing became a convenient option!
Today, over 17 thousand volunteers have requested test kits online. The kits are sent to the potential donor’s home, the donor performs the cheek swab, returns the kit to Gift of Life, and is entered into the registry. Volunteers are asked to contribute $60 to help offset the costs of lab processing, supplies, shipping and other expenses.
