Summary
The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties to facilitate and support the operations of the Adelson Gift of Life – Be The Match Collection Center as directed by the Apheresis Director.

Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED. One to two (1-2) years of Phlebotomy experience required. Medical Assistant/ Certified Nurse Assistant preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepares donors for examination by performing preliminary tests; blood pressure, height weight and temperature.
- Perform phlebotomies with excellent phlebotomy skills when needed.
- Measures and records donor vital signs.
- Set up and tear down physical exam and collection procedure rooms before and after procedures.
- Perform all functions associated with specimen collection
- Adequately and correctly collect and label patient specimens in an efficient and safe manner according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist callers with inquiries, complaints ,and/or issues in a professional manner.
- Routine exposure to human blood components
- Will have direct contact with donors and laboratory, and is instrumental in creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence while performing job duties.
- Perform all functions associated with specimen collection
- Other duties and procedures as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Three years of relevant work coordinating clinical care for patients preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and within teams.
- Time management skills to be able to follow-through of multiple simultaneous priorities
- Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedules, working hours, and procedures. Position may require extended hours at intervals.
- Ability to work in highly stressful situations.
Physical Demands
This position requires walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and using tools requiring high dexterity. Occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 20 pounds. Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemical and materials, needle sticks, blood and body fluids.
