In the spring of 2016 Danielle was diagnosed with a very rare immune-deficient disease called Chronic Active Epstein Barr Virus (CAEBV). It is so rare that it took 3 years before she was finally diagnosed at The National Institutes of Health. The disease has no known treatment or cure. Because of the nature of CAEBV she also developed Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma. She was stage 4 by the time she was diagnosed. The lymphoma was throughout her body including the cerebral spinal fluid around her brain. Her only hope was a stem cell transplant. She was treated at NIH for 10 weeks, and on August 11, 2016 she was given 6 million stem cells. She fought bravely through all her treatments, but lost her final battle on August 28, 2016. But this will not be the end of Danielle’s story. We, her family and friends, still believe in the importance of bone marrow and stem cell transplants. We believe that lives can be saved if only a match can be found. And we believe that Danielle would not want her death to be a reason to give up hope, but rather that her memory would be a reason to continue her fight and bring hope to millions of people waiting for a Gift of Life.
This donor community is being created to continue Danielle’s story and to bring honor to her memory. Our goals are
1. To bring awareness and education about the importance of donor registration,
2. To raise funds to support the cause and
3. To advance the number of potential donors through increased registrations.
Please help us reach our goals by joining Danielle’s Circle, giving a gift of money to support the work being done be Gift of Life, and/or by getting swabbed and registering as a potential donor.
