My son donated bone marrow on the Monday before Rosh Hashanah, on September 11th. Moed was cool and composed the entire time, but I wasn’t. We used to live in Washington, DC and we live in New York now, so I traveled to DC to be with him at Georgetown Hospital.

Annie Blair Eisner began writing her memoir when she was 18 years old. Her chapter titles included "A redhead named Annie"; "A bris for my finger"; "The time I failed my driver’s test"; and "When life hands you leukemia." But this was not Annie’s final chapter of the memoir. Her fifth chapter was entitled "Trendsetter." "Being sick was just a chapter of her life — a part of it — but it wasn’t what defined her," Jodi Eisner, Annie’s mother, said.

Clemson doctoral student Erika Hwang is helping save a total stranger by donating some of her peripheral blood stem cells. Hwang is working with Gift of Life to help save a man suffering from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia by donating peripheral blood stem cells. Her first donation was in December 2022. She is scheduled to make a second donation to the same patient on Sept. 11.

Miami Beach Police and the Gift of Life Marrow Registry hosted a donor recruitment drive, Tuesday. The event encouraged officers, firefighters and community leaders to swab their cheeks in hopes of finding a match for patients suffering from various blood cancers. At the event, a leukemia survivor got to meet the hero who saved her life.

Mitchell Stern of Boca Raton, who survived myelodysplastic disorder, a type of blood cancer, met his donor, Raphael Eidelman of Los Angeles at a Gift of Life Marrow Registry event.

To date, 434 lifesaving transplants have been make thanks to Birthright alumni. This meaningful achievement is the result of a nearly two-decade partnership between Birthright Israel and the Gift of Life Marrow Registry.
