Pickleball tournament raises awareness of need for marrow and stem cell donors

Apr 04, 2019 by Gift of Life News

On March 12, 2019 at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, 64 pickleball players from across South Florida queued up for a round robin tournament to benefit Gift of Life Marrow Registry. Another 60 people attended as officiants and spectators.

The Delray Beach Pickleball Club participated, and as a group raised a $1,000 contribution. Glenn Kessler, president of the club, presented the check to event organizer Gail Oliver, a longtime Gift of Life volunteer.

“Bringing so many Pickleball players and spectators together to support such an important cause, and potentially saving lives through the funds raised to add donors to the registry, is truly rewarding,” said Gail. “The presentation from the Delray Beach Pickleball Club to Gift of Life was an incredible surprise. This was truly pickleball with a purpose.”

This is the third year of the tournament, which takes advantage of the busy winter season in Florida to draw a large crowd. Sixty-four players joined the tournament, with Jay Gordon taking Advanced honors, Jeffrey Jolicoeur gaining the Intermediate medal, and Lee Krueger winning Novice.
