Help4Ezra Donor Circle reaches 500 matches for patients in need of stem cell/marrow transplants

Jan 24, 2023 by Gift of Life News

Gift of Life is thrilled to share that the Help4Ezra Donor Circle has reached 500 matches for patients!

The Help4Ezra Donor Circle at Gift of Life Marrow Registry has found 500 donor matches for patients battling blood cancer. Ezra received a transplant when he was just 18 months old, at the age shown in this photo. Today he is a healthy and active middle school student. The Donor Circle was started in 2010 in support of Ezra Fineman, an 18-month-old born with Hyper IgM Syndrome, an immune system disorder that can only be cured by a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant. The syndrome leads to infections the body cannot fight off, and typically results in a severely limited life expectancy. The transplant gives the patient a new, fully functioning immune system and the chance for a normal life.

Ezra received two transplants of blood stem cells, in 2012 and 2013, and began to recover. Today, he is a healthy 13-year-old and is attending middle school.  His family continues to advocate for Gift of Life and organizations that support people with Hyper IGM Syndrome.

Through the donor circle, the Fineman family added 7,832 new donors to the registry. To date, this has resulted in an incredible 74 completed, lifesaving transplants.

“It has been an honor and privilege to help so many other patients in need of a lifesaving transplant,” said Ezra’s mother, Robin Fineman. “Yet, our work is not done, and it is our greatest hope that no parent will ever be told again that there is no matching donor for their child. All patients should have a second chance at a healthy life.”

Congratulations to Ezra and the Fineman Family – you continue to have a positive impact. Thank you!
