Marc's Journey and Search for a Donor

May 04, 2012 by Gift of Life News

Marc is a father to four beautiful children and husband to Nicole, a loving and devoted wife.  He was born and raised in Chicago, IL, where he started his own collection agency company over thirty years ago.  Marc is currently battling a rare and extremely aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL).

Diagnosed in January 2011, Marc has had a long journey thus far with his disease. Four months after he was diagnosed with ALCL, in May 2011, he had a stem cell transplant using his own cells (a type of transplant called autologous bone marrow transplant). Though he went into remission, the cancer came back by the end of the year, and he began his search for a bone marrow donor.

In an effort to save her husband’s life, Nicole contacted Gift of Life about running a donor drive at the beginning of the year. Nicole has been instrumental in the effort to find Marc’s match, working tirelessly to network and spread the word about her husband’s condition via social media, such as their Facebook page (which has over 3,000 fans!), and other online networks.

So far, they have recruited over 1,500 new donors, and they’ve raised over $28,000, which will help clear waitlisted donor kits and increase Marc’s chance of finding a donor. He is still searching for that life-saving match, and time is of the essence. He needs the transplant immediately while he is in remission because of the aggressiveness of the disease.

There are several ways you can help.

Together, we can save Marc’s life.
