Gift of Life announces plans for 2016 Make A Difference Day

Oct 20, 2016 by Gift of Life News

Gift of Life Marrow Registry will participate in the nationwide Make A Difference Day  initiative taking place on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Across the country, Gift of Life campus ambassadors and advocates will host recruitment drives in order to add marrow donors to the registry. Volunteers will also create greeting cards to give to Gift of Life donors to thank them for saving lives.

Make A Difference Day, held the fourth Saturday of October, marks its 25th day of service this year. Participants will unite with a common mission — to improve the lives of others. This is one of the largest annual single days of service in the United States.

Gift of Life will be registering new marrow donors, which are urgently needed to help find matches for patients suffering from blood cancers including leukemia and lymphoma. In some cases, the only hope for a cure is a marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplant. Only 30 percent of patients find a matching donor within their family; the other 70 percent must turn to the international registry to seek a donor.

Gift of Life Make A Difference Day donor drives will be held at:

Gift of Life volunteers enable our donors, recipients, and ardent supporters to help further our lifesaving mission. Joining the registry is as simple as swabbing your cheek and completing an online form – just a few minutes of your time may save the life of someone with cancer. If you’re especially short on time, you can even pre-register for a drive and get through even faster.

You have the potential inside you to save a life. What greater service could you offer on Make A Difference Day? Sign up now to visit one of our drives and swab your cheek on October 22!
