Q: What is a virtual run and walk?
A virtual run or walk is an event that can take place at a location of your choice and either be completed all at once or over time.
Q: How does the Steps for Life Virtual 5k work?
Participants can complete their 5k (3.1 miles) any time between now and Monday, September 19, 2022 @ Noon EST, and in any location they choose! Once you complete your 5k, simply upload the results to our online form to be eligible for a Top Finisher medal. - SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED

As part of your 5k registration, you will receive a Gift of Life branded items, based on your participation level.
Submit your completion time - SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED
You can track your 5k using a wearable activity device (i.e. Apple Watch, FitBit, Garmin, etc.) or a phone app. We suggest Nike Run, Strava, or Runkeeper, but any that shows your time and distance can be submitted.
Q: Should I still form a team and fundraise as I did in the past?
Absolutely! You can form a team, send out emails, and track your progress on your personal and/or team page. Check out the Fundraising Guide and Incentives for some ideas on how to get started!
Q: Why should I participate in the 2022 Steps for Life Virtual 5k?
Patients in need of life-saving transplants don’t have the luxury of time to wait until donor collections become easier or more convenient. During this unprecedented time, our operations have continued without any interruptions. Your support is needed now more than ever before to help ensure we can continue to save lives every day!
Q: I registered for the $60 swab kit level. When will my kit arrive?
This level is to add a donor to the registry. If you would like us to mail you a kit so that you will be added as a donor, we are happy to do so. Please email stepsforlife@giftoflife.org and let us know. Otherwise, this will be used for someone else.
Q: Who can participate?
Everybody and anybody! There is no age limit and there are no restrictions. Grab your shoes and run, jog, walk, or skip - it doesn’t matter. Just get out there and get moving!
Q: Do I need to submit my time and photos in order to receive my shirt?
No. Shirts will be sent out in batches beginning in late August. Please allow 7-10 days once mailed.
Your registration will serve as your verification of participation. However, if you want to qualify for one of the Top Finisher Medals, we encourage you to use your wearable activity tracker or time yourself with a phone app. When you complete your 5k, please submit your time - SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED

Q: Will I be timed?
Only by you! You are welcome to time yourself however you’re comfortable. When you complete your 5k, please submit your time - SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED
Q: Is there a certain course I need to run?
No, you are able to walk or run wherever you like. Hit your treadmill or local neighborhood to complete your 5k. We just ask that you stay safe while participating.
Q: What are the awards categories?
Awards will be distributed to individuals in the following Top Finisher categories. Be sure to submit your time by Monday, September 19, 2022 @ Noon EST. Winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony on Monday, September 19, 2022 @ 7 PM EST.
Q: If I qualify as a Top Finisher, when will I receive my medal?
You will receive your Top Finisher medal after the winners are announced during the Closing Ceremony on Monday, September 19, 2022 @ 7 PM EST. Medals will be mailed to your registered mailing address.
Q: Can I get a refund if I no longer wish to participate?
Unfortunately, refunds are not available and we hope you will consider switching your registration fee over to a donation to Gift of Life.
Q: I don’t live in the United States, can I still participate?
Absolutely! A Virtual 5k means you can participate anywhere in the world!
