Q: What is a virtual run and walk?
A virtual run or walk is an event that can take place at a location of your choice and either be completed all at once or over time.
Q: How does the Steps for Life Virtual 5k work?
Participants can complete their 5k (3.1 miles) any time between now and Sunday October 26, 2025 @ 11AM ET, and in any location they choose! Once you complete your 5k, simply email your results to events@giftoflife.org to be eligible for a Top Finisher medal.
Q: Should I still form a team and fundraise as I did in the past?
Absolutely! You can form a team, send out emails, and track your progress on your personal and/or team page. Check out the Fundraising Guide for some ideas on how to get started!
Q: I registered for the $60 level. When will my swab kit arrive?
This level is to add a donor to the registry. If you would like us to mail you a kit so you can swab and be added as a donor, we are happy to do so. Please email events@giftoflife.org and let us know. Otherwise, this will be used for someone else.
Q: Who can participate?
Everybody and anybody! There is no age limit and there are no restrictions. Grab your shoes and run, jog, walk, or skip - it doesn’t matter. Just get out there and get moving!
Q: Do I need to submit my time and photos in order to receive my shirt?
No. For the $40 and $60 levels, shirts will be sent out in batches beginning in early October. Please allow 7-10 days once mailed.
Your registration will serve as your participation. However, if you want to qualify for one of the Top Finisher Medals, we encourage you to use a wearable activity tracker or time yourself with a phone app. When you are finished, please submit your time to events@giftoflife.org

Q: Will I be timed?
Only by you! You are welcome to time yourself however you’re comfortable. When you complete your 5k, please submit your time to events@giftoflife.org
Q: Is there a certain course I need to run?
No. Run, jog or walk on the road, trail, or treadmill. Participate in your own race and at your own pace!
Q: What are the awards categories?
Awards will be mailed to individuals in the following Top Finisher categories. Be sure to submit your time to events@giftoflife.org by Saturday October 25, 2025 @ 11 AM ET. Winners will be announced on Sunday October 26, 2025.
Q: If I qualify as a Top Finisher, when will I receive my medal?
You will receive your Top Finisher medal after the winners are announced during on Sunday October 26, 2025. Medals will be mailed to your registered mailing address.
Q: Can I get a refund if I no longer wish to participate?
Unfortunately, refunds are not available and we hope you will consider switching your registration fee over to a donation to Gift of Life.
Q: I don’t live in the United States, can I still participate?
Absolutely! A Virtual 5k means you can participate anywhere in the world!
Q: I'd like to make a donation. Where can I do that?
Start by heading to the Sponsor Runner page and search by Individual, Team, or make a general event donation.
