Birthright & YU Donors Speak

Jan 12, 2009 by Gift of Life News

Two Gift of Life donors shared their experiences in public recently at Birthright Israel's Annual Gala and Yeshiva University's Hanukkah Dinner.

On Thursday, December 11, Pamela Lack was asked to stand at the Birthright Israel Foundation’s annual gala held in New York at the Pierre Hotel. In front of over 300 people, she shared her poignant story of being tested in Israel while on a Taglit trip with trip organizer Oranim, and later being called by Gift of Life as a potential match for a child. There was not a dry eye in the ballroom. Pamela is returning to Israel to lead a Taglit group with Oranim, and will encourage everyone to become a member of the Gift of Life Registry.

Then, on Sunday, December 14, Avi Amsalem was asked to stand at the Yeshiva University Hannukah Dinner and Convocation in New York at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. YU President Richard Joel spoke about Avi’s courageous act to save the life of a patient in need and his involvement as president of the YU Student Medical Ethics Society. In February, the Society will launch an ambitious Gift of Life recruitment campaign on campus called BAM (Bone Marrow Awareness Month), and a lecture series on the medical ethics of organ donation.
